A handful from the dozens of homeowners who've trusted us with their floors across Dutchess, Putnam, Westchester, Ulster and Orange counties.
After twenty years living and raising three children on our maple floors, we decided to refinish them. We interviewed five contractors. From the first contact, Wood on Wheels was the most professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and competent. They completed the job exactly on schedule and with no problems. The result is spectacular!
Bob's an artist. Many surfaces were extremely uneven, some floors had been painted, and many old pine planks were loose and splintery. Some wood was modern, some recycled barn wood, and some may have dated to the 19th century. The end result was beautiful: warm, glowing wood in every room.
I have worked with Bob and crew on six different projects, all with large square footage and wood in varied conditions. The transformations in each case were unmatched — very strong attention to detail, flexible scheduling, fair pricing, and straight talk on options and expectations. Highly recommended.
Wood on Wheels was so wonderful to work with. Conscientious, detailed and efficient. On time, knowledgeable, and very accommodating. Highly recommended. Thanks, guys!
Bobby is a true professional, a perfectionist. He removed the living room and hallway flooring, tied in new flooring and reused most of the old, and replaced the saddle under my front door. I highly recommend him.
A+ all around. Price. Punctuality. Customer service. Quality. Job done to perfection — the floor is now level and solid and the new floor looks great.
Quick answers to the questions we get most. Anything else? Call us — we're happy to walk you through it.
Full sand-and-refinish is typically a 10–15 year cycle depending on traffic, pets and finish type. Most homes benefit from a maintenance recoat every 3–5 years to keep the finish intact without sanding.
A recoat adds a fresh layer of finish over your existing floor — no sanding, much less dust, much faster. A full refinish sands back to bare wood so we can change color, remove deep scratches and start fresh.
Yes. We use professional dust-containment systems and specialize in modern water-based finishes that are safer, low-odor, and more durable than traditional polyurethanes.
Light foot traffic in socks within 24 hours. Furniture back in 48–72 hours. Rugs and heavy traffic after two weeks, once the finish has fully cured.
A Bona-style pH-neutral hardwood cleaner and a microfiber pad. Avoid vinegar, Murphy's Oil Soap, and steam mops — they can break down the finish over time.
Yes — felt pads, caster cups, non-skid feet, and more. Ask us about the right setup for your furniture. Protecting the finish is the cheapest way to extend the life of a floor.
